Preet made history in June 2017 when she was elected as the UK’s first ever Sikh female MP, helping Labour to comfortably retain the Edgbaston seat in Birmingham.

Since becoming an MP, Preet has excelled and in January 2018 she was appointed as Shadow Minister for International Development. She is also the Chair for the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for UK Sikhs

Preet Holds a First class Honour’s degree in Sociology and Social work. As part of her final year, she undertook research in New Delhi working with Street children. She also spent significant time with the women from ‘widow’s colony’ in Delhi.

Preet continues to be the flag bearer for Sikh representation in Westminster, particularity for females. She has been involved with The Sikh Network since her days as a Councillor at Sandwell Council and it has been amazing to see how her political career has flourished.
