Dr Opinderjit Kaur Takhar FHEA, BA (Hons), MA, PhD, PGCE

Opinderjit is Senior Lecturer and Head of Religious Studies at the University of Wolverhampton. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Opinderjit’s academic research is focussed around Sikh and Punjab Studies. She has written extensively on matters and issues in relation to British Sikhs and is also the author of Sikh Identity: An Exploration of groups among Sikhs, published by Ashgate and used as a key text on Sikh Identity in Universities across the world. Opinderjit has written a number of peer reviewed articles in academic journals around issues of caste and gender equality, as well as numerous other publications including a contribution to the Oxford Handbook of Sikh Studies (2014). She is also an Editorial Board Member of the peer reviewed journal Sikh Formations: Religion, Culture, Theory.

Opinderjit is Consultant to a number of educational organisations responsible for producing resources on Sikhs and Sikhi for schools and colleges. She is also a contributor to the Faith and Leadership Programme at London School of Economics (LSE). Opinderjit is co-author of the Sikh Manifesto and Faith Governor for Akaal Academy, Derby.
